Noun and  the Number

Number- if a noun tells about one or more than one is called Number.

Ex- A boy

A pen
A man
A table
These all are only one.

Boys 
Pens
Men
Tables
These all are more than one.

Kind of Number.

1.Singular Number.
2.Plural Number.

Singular Number- If a noun tells about only one.
 
Ex- A student ( एक छात्र).
A House. ( एक घर)
A monkey( एक बंदर ) etc.
A City ( एक शहर)

Plural Number - If a noun tells about more than one, it is called Plural Number.

Ex- Houses( एक से अधिक घर)
   Students( एक से अधिक छात्र)
    Cities ( एक से अधिक शहर)

Rules for changing a singular into Plural.

Rule-1 : Generally adding  's' 

Generally किसी भी Noun में 's ' और जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है।

Ex- Fan-  Fans
      Pen - Pens 
    Table-  tables
Shirt-       shirts 
Dog-        Dogs
Horse-     Horses etc.

Rule-2: 
When s, ss, sh,ch ,x, or z letter  are at the end of a singular common noun, then plural is made by adding ' es' .

यदि किसी singular common noun  के अंतिम letter
s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z  हो, तो उसमे ' es' जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है।
Ex-
Bus - buses
Gas- Gases
Kiss- kisses
Class- classes
Glass- Glasses
Dish- dishes
Fish- fishes
Brush- Brushes
Match- Matches
Bench- Benches
Branch- Branches
Box- Boxes
Tax- Taxes
Quiz- Quizes
Topza- Topazes.

 Note- ध्यान रहे अगर किसी noun का अंतिम letter में ch रहे और वहां ch ( क ) का उच्चारण(  Pronunciation) ' क ' के लिए हुआ है तब उसमें केवल ' s ' जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है।

जैसे- Monarch - Monarchs
     Stomach - stomachs

Rule-3: यदि किसी singular common noun के अंत में ' y ' letter आया हो तथा y के पहले कोई Consonant ( व्यंजन ) आया हो, तब उसमें ' ies' जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है।

जैसे - Country- Countries
      City - Cities
    Lady - Ladies
    Fly - Flies
Duty- Duties
Salary - Salaries
Lily - Lilies

Rule- 4: लेकिन यदि किसी singular common noun के अंत में ' y ' letter आया हो तथा y के पहले कोई अगर vowel letter  आया हो, तब उसमें केवल ' s' जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है।

जैसे - Monkey - Monkeys
        Donkey - Donkeys
        Play - Plays
        Toy - Toy
         Day - Day
         Storey - Storeys
        Pay - Pays
        Chimney - chimneys
         Journey - journeys etc.



Rule-5 : यदि किसी singular common noun के last letter ' o ' हो और o और से पहले कोई consonant हो तब उसमें ' es ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

जैसे- Mango - Mangoes
        Potato - Potatoes
        Tomato- Tomatoes
         Negro - Negroes
        Hero - Heroes
         Mosquito - Mosquitoes
         Echo - Echoes
         Grotto - Grottoes etc.

Rule-6: लेकिन ध्यान रहे कुछ noun  एैसे भी हैं जिनके last Letter 'o ' रहता हैं और ' o के बाद consonant भी रहता है लेकिन फिर भी उसका plural केवल ' s '  जोड़कर बनाया जाता है। ' es ' जोड़कर नहीं ।
जैसे- Photo - Photos
       Dynamo - Dynamos
        Piano - Pianos
        Kilo - kilos


Note- कुछ ऐसे singular common noun के है जिनके last और में ' o ' रहता है और o के पहले consonant भी रहता है लेकिन इनका Plural  ( s / es)  दोनों में से कोई भी एक जोड़कर बनाया जा सकता है।

जैसे -
Cargo - Cargos / Cargoes
Portico - Porticos / Porticoes
Lasso - Lassos / Lassoes


Rule- 7: यदि किसी singular common noun  का last letter ' o ' हो और  ' o' के पहले कोई vowel हो, तब सिर्फ ' s ' जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता हैं।
जैसे - video - Videos
Studio - studios
Ratio - Ratios
Bamboo - Bamboos
Cuckoo - Cuckoos
Stereo - Stereos


Rule-8: यदि किसी singular common noun का last letter ' f ' or   ' fe '  हो, तो ' f ' or   ' fe ' को हटा कर
' ves' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

Loaf - Loaves
Shelf - Shelves
Half - Halves
Thief - Thieves
Wife - Wives
Calf - Calves


Rule-9:  लेकिन कुछ ऐसे भी singular nouns  है जिनके last  में f ' , ff ' or fe '  रहता है लेकिन फिर भी उसमें केवल ' s ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

Chief -    Chiefs
Belief -    Beliefs
Dwarf -    Dwarfs
Handkerchief- Handkerchiefs
Cliff -      Cliffs
Grief -     Griefs
Scarf -     Scarfs
Gulf -      Gulfs
Hoof-      Hoofs
Roof -     Roofs
Proof -    Proofs
Mischief - Mischiefs
Reef -       Reef
Puff -      Puffs
Staff - Staff
Stuff - Stuffs
Turf  - Turfs
Wharf - Wharfs

Note - कुछ noun के ऐसे भी है जिनको आप दोनों तरीकों से Plural बना सकते है।

Hoof - Hoofs / Hooves
Scarf - ScarFS / Scarves
Wharf - Wharfs / Wharves
Staff - Staffs / Staves

Rule- 10:  कुछ ऐसे भी Singular common Nouns  है जिनको Plural बनाते समय उनके बीच के vowel letter  को बदलकर Plural बनाया जाता है।

जैसे - Foot - Feet
Goose - Geese
Man - Men
Mouse - Mice
Tooth - Teeth
Woman - Women
Dormouse - Dormice
Rule-11: कुछ ऐसे भी Nouns और है जिनको Plural बनाते समय उनके last में ' en ' or   ' ren ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

Child - Children
Ox - oxen
Brother - Brothers ( Blood Relationship)
                   Brethren ( same realism member)

Rule-12: Generally ( )  Singular Compound Noun को Plural बनाते समय उसके Main word और में
' s' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है ।
जैसे - son in law - sons in law
Doughter in law - doughters in law
Father in law -      fathers in law
Passer by -            passers by
Commander in chief - commanders in chief
Step - mother -      step mothers
Step sister -           step sisters
Step son      -         step sons
Step brother -         step brothers
Rule - और कुछ ऐसे भी Noun है जिनके Main word के middle vowel  को change  कर के Plural बनाया जाता है या

Note- कुछ ऐसे भी Compound Noun  है जिनके last में अगर man रहता है तब Man के vowel  को बदलकर Plural बनाया जाता है
जैसे - Kins man  - kins men
         woman -      women
           Foot -         Feet
           tooth   -     teeth


लेकिन ध्यान दे कुछ ऐसे भी Compound Noun है  जिनके last में man  और woman   रहता है  लेकिन फिर भी उसमें ' s ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है
 Ex- North man - North mans
 Musalman - Musalmans
Brahman - Brahmans
Turoman - Turcomans

Rule - 13 और कुछ ऐसे भी noun है जिनके  दोनों terms में changing  कर के Plural बनाया जाता है।
Ex- Man- servant
  Woman servant
 Washer man
Lord justice
Knight Templar
Lord Lieutenant

Rule- 14 कुछ ऐसे compound words के है जिनके last Word के साथ 's ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

Ex- Forget-me- not  - forget me nots
Go- between - betweens
Pick- me - up  - pick me ups

Rule- 15 :  कुछ ऐसे Noun है जिनके Tail term
 में ' s ' जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।

Ex- spoonful - spoonfuls
Mouthful - mouthfuls
